Helping a Client Update Their Communications To Keep Pace with the Times

Sometimes things fall into place and a relationship works. Since 2006, RAM has helped American Freight Solutions by providing timely solutions in an ever-changing environment. This is not a story about one solution or challenge. This is an opportunity to highlight what successful telecom consulting is all about – helping the client keep pace as the business evolves.

John Murnane founded American Freight Solutions in 2004. American Freight Solutions has been a reliable, third-party logistics partner for decades. If your business has freight delivery needs anywhere in the U.S. or Canada, AFS has a reliable way to get your product delivered. Like RAM, American Freight Solutions goes the extra mile serving its clients.

Top-level customer service requires reliable and efficient communication tools. From its inception, John and his team depended on reliable phone solutions. Back in the 2000’s dial tone and internet services were quite a bit different than today. For one thing, long distance services were a costly commodity. As agents, RAM was there to help AFS find the best and long distance solutions. As a logistics provider, AFS dialed phone calls all day long. RAM was able to lower those operating costs 40% and provide dedicated customer support. A winning solution started a longterm partnership.

As previously mentioned internet services (and costs) have changed tremendously in 20 years. Internet service was a significant operating cost for AFS and all businesses in the mid-2000’s. Fortunately, as a broker with many resources, we helped AFS find dedicated circuits at reasonable costs. At the time, there were many technical considerations (firewalls, routers and T1 installations) that had to be addressed during installations. RAM worked with the techs and carriers to coordinate these installs smoothly. At the time, these solutions also lowered operating costs 30-40%. This freed up cashflow significantly for the business. Again, RAM’s help desk was there to provide technical and billing support whenever John or his staff needed personal help.

As times changed technology changed too. Business phone systems became more affordable. As cost and technology became practical, RAM found the ideal solution, partner and support arrangement to help AFS select and utilize the ideal phone system. Those needs included auto attendant schedules, voicemail, integrated faxing and after-hours notification on one platform. That may sound elementary but these were evolutionary developments in 2010.

Two office moves later and the AFS Team had different needs. RAM brought in fiber and broadband services to help keep pace with growing internet demands. Gradually, like all businesses AFS was becoming more data driven in its daily operations.

The covid pandemic forced changes in work activities too. American Freight was faced with a big decision; continue a traditional office environment or make the jump to virtual connectivity. AFS chose to move its staff home. With that change, RAM brought in hosted phones, e-faxing, and private texting solutions. Despite the significant work-life change, John and his team feel the move to home was best for all involved. Like the prior solutions, the hosted voice platform kept pace with the needs of the business. 18 years later, American Freight is still staying efficient and saving money in the process.

“Rob and his team at RAM have always provided the expertise needed when trying to decide on a new phone system. They help us find out what we really need and what we don’t so that we are not overpaying for features we won’t use.”
